I can’t be consistent about blogging…

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:34 PM by eigenpolynomial

So I never had time to blog this fall, and I let an entire semester pass without writing in this once.  Actually, it’s not true that I didn’t have time, I just didn’t prioritize it much so I picked more important things to do.

Anyway, I was just talking to Anthony Hsu, and this was our conversation:

Ken: dude

Anthony: what’s up?

Ken: i had this dream this morning while drifting in and out of consciousness, lying in bed
so i already got my CS grade back
(that is a fact, not a dream)
then
in my dream i had this like paper assignment to do
for CS
and i couldn’t remember in my dream whether i’d gotten my grade back
i was like wait
i’ve already taken my CS final
AND gotten back the results
why do i have to do this assignment??
i thought i was done with this course
but if i don’t do it i might get a bad grade!
when i woke up i just realized it was because of your story haha
or your situation rather
Anthony: hahaha
i finally finished my assignment yesterday afternoon
Ken: haha nice
did you get it in in time?
Anthony: i’m thinking my prof will probably still grade it
technically i should’ve gotten it in by 5pm friday
Ken: haha i know
Anthony: but all he said about submissions after that was they “might not be graded”
but i know my prof is the kind of guy who really tries to help his students out
and so i’m sure he’ll grade my assignment
Ken: haha i hope so
Anthony: i emailed the TA with a bunch of questions about the assignment and cc’d the prof, too
so i think he was aware i was still working on the assignment
heh, you should post your dream on your blog
or just copy and paste this conversation
and post it exactly as is
Ken: haha okay i will

In case you haven’t talked to Anthony, he had already taken his CS final, but still had an assignment due after it that he was putting off in the typical Hsuman fashion.

Anyway, since the summer, I’ve put on some mass and all my lifts have gone up.  Here are my current stats:

Bodyweight: 175lb

Squat (1RM): 295lb

Bench (1RM): 235lb

Deadlift (1RM): 345lb

The most recently “tested” lift was bench, and that was like a month ago I think.  All the other maxes are more than a month old, and I’m fairly certain the other two lifts have since gone up.   Other than that, I’m just at home, waiting for my grades to come in, haha.  Super satisfied with orgo (CHEM 3570/357).  I studied consistently for it (except for the final… where I only studied like 4 hours the night before because I had a java final that night until 9:30) and ended up with an A+.  Can’t ask for much more.

Hope to relax this winter break, and catch up with some high school friends before going back for the spring semester.

    Yay!

Wow, I think maybe for the first time ever, I weigh less than you.

Good job on that A+. How many of those do they give out?

I might have to start lifting to fully appreciate your stats. Right now, they sound really impressive but I bet they’d be even more impressive if I discovered what my own stats are.

Oops, that’s actually me. Accidentally posted while logged in to the Yale Asian American Students Alliance WordPress account.

Yo, I’m not exactly sure how they do the grades, but I think with a normal distribution, 1 std dev in either direction from the mean is comprises around 68% of the samples. Two std devs within the mean comprises I think about 95.5%(?). So you account for the rest of the samples that are under the mean, and if you’re 2 std devs above the mean, that means you’re above around 98% of the samples. So since my class was about 730, they’d give out 14 or 15? Something like that? Of course, the professor could grade the class however he’d like, so this is just a guess.
